21 LEGO Challenges for Kids of All Ages | Before I became a mom, I didn't appreciate just how much you can do with LEGO outside of building houses and cars. The internet is FULL of ideas for kids in preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and even high school! Whether you're looking for something simple to build at home with your kids, or you're on the hunt for LEGO stem challenges and activities for the classroom, this post has lots of free ideas to inspire you!

If you’re looking for LEGO challenges for kids, you are in for a REAL treat!

Before I became a mom, I had absolutely no idea that you could do anything other than build things with LEGO. But as my daughter has gotten older and I’ve continued searching for learning activities we can do together at home, I am absolutely blown away with the number of ideas people share online. From DIY marble runs, to balloon-powered LEGO cars, to LEGO catapults, there are tons of STEM-inspired LEGO challenges for kids that are equal parts fun and educational, and I’m excited to share our favorites with you below!

Whether you’re enjoying these with your kids on a lazy Saturday afternoon, or using them to create lesson plans for your students to enjoy in the classroom, these LEGO challenges for kids are sure to be a hit.

10 LEGO Essentials To Invest In

Before you dig into our favorite LEGO challenges for kids, there are a few supplies you will need. While many of the activities we’re shared only require a basic set of LEGO, you will need accessories like extra building plates, gears, connectors, etc. for a few of them. And if you decide to make the marble run and/or marble maze – which I highly recommend, by the way! – you’ll obviously want to have a couple of marbles handy. Check out our favorite LEGO essentials below!

  1. LEGO Classic Large Creative Brick Box
  2. LEGO DUPLO Classic Deluxe Brick Box
  3. Small Lego Building Plates Accessory Set
  4. LEGO Duplo Compatible Building Brick Baseplates
  5. LEGO Technic Differential Gear Box Kit (gears, pins, axles, connectors)
  6. LEGO Storage & Organizer Container Case with Building Plate Lid
